Steel Fighters beginner guide: how the game works
The core loop is simple, and this Steel Fighters beginner guide follows it step by step:
- Buy parts from the lever machine.
- Build a robot from six parts: a head, a torso and limbs.
- Send it up the arena floors, which never end, and into boss fights.
- Spend what you earn on upgrades, rebirth when you are ready, and challenge other players.
The newest big patch is Steel Fighters Update 1, which added the Index, the Codes machine, server events and new Space content on October 23, 2026.
Your first hour
- Finish the tutorial. Destructoid says the Codes machine only works after it.
- Claim the free rewards. Like the game, join the WeShowProjects group and favorite the game. The Steel Fighters free robot guide covers what is known.
- Redeem a code. The Codes machine stands in the Junkyard area next to the Events machine. Press E, type the code and press Redeem. Working codes are on our Steel Fighters codes page.
- Build a robot. See the next section.
- Play with friends. The developer lists +50% Cash for it.
- Deliver junk. Collecting junk in the Steel Fighters Junkyard and carrying it home is how you earn Scrap.
- Reach level 10. It unlocks the Rookie title for +4% Cash.
Build your first robot
Part stats are not published, so the safest early build is a matching set. If all six parts come from the same robot, the Perfect trait gives +10% stats, and it also works on robots you already own.
Parts come from the lever machine. Update 1 added an Early parts setting that lets you choose which robot tiers the lever rolls, and the Steel Fighters parts guide covers it along with Luck boosts. The new Index shows every robot, and the Steel Fighters robots guide explains how it works.
No reliable source has published robot stats, so there is no robot tier list yet. The Steel Fighters tier list ranks titles instead.

What to aim for next
- Floors. Floor 100 unlocks Tower Climber (+14% Cash), floor 200 Arena Legend (+27%) and floor 300 Star Voyager (+32%). The arena Cash limit grows as you climb, much faster from floor 300. See Steel Fighters floors.
- Bosses. Junkyard Titan and Space Titan spawn every 40 minutes and drop Cash, Scrap and more; Steel Fighters bosses has the rest.
- Rebirth. Three rebirths unlock Reborn (+22% Cash) and seven unlock Phoenix (+32% Cash). WeShowProjects has not published rebirth costs or what resets, so read Steel Fighters rebirth before you commit.
- Space. The Space area has Trials, a Star Machine, a Black Hole and the Space Titan. How you unlock it is not published; Steel Fighters Space covers what is known.
- Events. Robux-bought server Steel Fighters events boost everyone in your server for a short time.
